Tao Te Ching 28.1

知其雄，守其雌，為天下谿。為天下谿，常德不離，復歸於嬰兒。知其白，守其黑，為天下式。為天下式，常德不忒，復歸於無極。知其榮，守其辱，為天下谷。為天下谷，常德乃足，復歸於樸。樸散則為器，聖人用之則為官長，故大制不割。

zhi qi xiong, shou qi ci, wei tian xia xi. wei tian xia xi, chang de bu li, fu gui yu ying er. zhi qi bai, shou qi hei, wei tian xia shi. wei tian xia shi, chang de bu te, fu gui yu wu ji. zhi qi rong, shou qi ru, wei tian xia gu. wei tian xia gu, chang de nai zu, fu gui yu pu. pu san ze wei qi, sheng ren yong zhi ze wei guan zhang, gu da zhi bu ge.

Know the masculine, but keep to the feminine — be the stream of the world. Being the stream of the world, the eternal virtue will not depart, and you will return to the state of the infant. Know the white, but keep to the black — be the standard of the world. Being the standard of the world, the eternal virtue will not falter, and you will return to the limitless. Know honour, but keep to humility — be the valley of the world. Being the valley of the world, the eternal virtue will be sufficient, and you will return to the state of the uncarved block. When the uncarved block is split, it becomes vessels. The sage uses them and becomes the chief of officials. Therefore the great system does not cut.

पौरुष को जान और स्त्रीत्व को धारण कर — तो संसार की जलधारा बन जाओगे। संसार की जलधारा बनने से शाश्वत गुण तुमसे पृथक न होगा, और तुम शिशु-अवस्था में लौट आओगे। श्वेत को जान और कृष्ण को धारण कर — तो संसार का मानक बन जाओगे। संसार का मानक बनने से शाश्वत गुण डगमगाएगा नहीं, और तुम असीम में लौट आओगे। सम्मान को जान और हीनता को धारण कर — तो संसार की घाटी बन जाओगे। संसार की घाटी बनने से शाश्वत गुण पर्याप्त होगा, और तुम अनगढ़ काष्ठ में लौट आओगे। अनगढ़ काष्ठ विखंडित होकर पात्र बनती है; संत उसे ले तो अधिकारियों का प्रधान बन जाता है। इसीलिए महान व्यवस्था विभाजित नहीं करती।
