Tao Te Ching 29.1

將欲取天下而為之，吾見其不得已。天下神器，不可為也。為者敗之，執者失之。故物或行或隨，或歔或吹，或強或羸，或載或隳。是以聖人去甚，去奢，去泰。

jiang yu qu tian xia er wei zhi, wu jian qi bu de yi. tian xia shen qi, bu ke wei ye. wei zhe bai zhi, zhi zhe shi zhi. gu wu huo xing huo sui, huo xu huo chui, huo qiang huo lei, huo zai huo hui. shi yi sheng ren qu shen, qu she, qu tai.

Those who wish to take the world and act upon it, I see that they will not succeed. The world is a sacred vessel; it cannot be acted upon. Those who act upon it will fail. Those who seize it will lose it. Among things, some lead and some follow, some breathe gently and some breathe hard, some are strong and some are weak, some rise and some fall. Therefore the sage avoids excess, avoids extravagance, avoids extremes.

जो संसार को लेकर उस पर क्रिया करना चाहते हैं, मैं देखता हूँ वे सफल नहीं हो सकते। संसार एक पावन पात्र है — उस पर क्रिया नहीं की जा सकती। जो क्रिया करता है, बिगाड़ता है; जो पकड़ता है, खो देता है। कुछ जीव अग्रसर होते हैं, कुछ पीछे; कुछ धीरे साँस लेते हैं, कुछ तीव्र; कुछ बलवान हैं, कुछ दुर्बल; कुछ उठते हैं, कुछ गिरते हैं। इसलिए संत अति, आडंबर और चरम को त्याग देता है।
