Tao Te Ching 37.1

道常無為而無不為。侯王若能守之，萬物將自化。化而欲作，吾將鎮之以無名之樸。無名之樸，夫亦將無欲。不欲以靜，天下將自定。

dao chang wu wei er wu bu wei. hou wang ruo neng shou zhi, wan wu jiang zi hua. hua er yu zuo, wu jiang zhen zhi yi wu ming zhi pu. wu ming zhi pu, fu yi jiang wu yu. bu yu yi jing, tian xia jiang zi ding.

The Tao never acts, yet nothing is left undone. If kings and lords could hold to it, all things would transform by themselves. If, having transformed, desires should arise, I would press them down with the simplicity of the nameless uncarved block. The simplicity of the nameless uncarved block will bring about freedom from desire. Without desire there is stillness, and the world settles of its own accord.

दाओ सदा अक्रिय है, फिर भी कुछ अकृत नहीं। यदि राजा और सामंत उसे धारण कर सकें, तो समस्त जीव स्वयं ही रूपांतरित हो जाएँगे। रूपांतरित होकर कामना उठे, तो मैं उसे निर्नाम अनगढ़ काष्ठ से दबा दूँगा। निर्नाम अनगढ़ काष्ठ कामना-रहितता लाती है। कामना-रहितता से स्थिरता आती है, और संसार स्वयं ही व्यवस्थित हो जाता है।
