Tao Te Ching 54.1

善建者不拔，善抱者不脫，子孫以祭祀不輟。修之於身，其德乃真；修之於家，其德乃餘；修之於鄉，其德乃長；修之於邦，其德乃豐；修之於天下，其德乃普。故以身觀身，以家觀家，以鄉觀鄉，以邦觀邦，以天下觀天下。吾何以知天下然哉？以此。

shan jian zhe bu ba, shan bao zhe bu tuo, zi sun yi ji si bu chuo. xiu zhi yu shen, qi de nai zhen; xiu zhi yu jia, qi de nai yu; xiu zhi yu xiang, qi de nai zhang; xiu zhi yu bang, qi de nai feng; xiu zhi yu tian xia, qi de nai pu. gu yi shen guan shen, yi jia guan jia, yi xiang guan xiang, yi bang guan bang, yi tian xia guan tian xia. wu he yi zhi tian xia ran zai? yi ci.

What is well planted cannot be uprooted. What is well embraced cannot slip away. Through this, descendants will honor their ancestors without ceasing. Cultivate virtue in yourself, and it becomes genuine. Cultivate it in the family, and it becomes abundant. Cultivate it in the village, and it becomes enduring. Cultivate it in the nation, and it becomes flourishing. Cultivate it in the world, and it becomes universal. Therefore observe the person through the person, the family through the family, the village through the village, the nation through the nation, the world through the world. How do I know the world is so? Through this.

जो उत्तमता से गाड़ा जाता है वह उखड़ता नहीं; जो उत्तमता से आलिंगन किया जाता है वह छूटता नहीं; इसी से वंशज पूर्वजों की पूजा अनवरत करते हैं। शरीर में इसकी साधना करो — गुण सच्चा हो जाता है; परिवार में साधना करो — गुण प्रचुर हो जाता है; गाँव में साधना करो — गुण चिरस्थायी हो जाता है; राष्ट्र में साधना करो — गुण समृद्ध हो जाता है; संसार में साधना करो — गुण सार्वभौम हो जाता है। इसलिए शरीर से शरीर को देखो, परिवार से परिवार को, गाँव से गाँव को, राष्ट्र से राष्ट्र को, संसार से संसार को। मैं कैसे जानता हूँ संसार ऐसा ही है? इसी के द्वारा।
