Tao Te Ching 69.1

用兵有言：吾不敢為主而為客，不敢進寸而退尺。是謂行無行，攘無臂，扔無敵，執無兵。禍莫大於輕敵，輕敵幾喪吾寶。故抗兵相若，哀者勝矣。

yong bing you yan: wu bu gan wei zhu er wei ke, bu gan jin cun er tui chi. shi wei xing wu xing, rang wu bi, reng wu di, zhi wu bing. huo mo da yu qing di, qing di ji sang wu bao. gu kang bing xiang ruo, ai zhe sheng yi.

There is a saying among soldiers: I dare not act as host but prefer to act as guest. I dare not advance an inch but prefer to retreat a foot. This is called marching without marching, rolling up sleeves without baring arms, confronting without enemies, wielding without weapons. There is no greater misfortune than underestimating the enemy. Underestimating the enemy nearly costs me my treasures. Therefore when two armies meet in battle, the one that grieves will win.

योद्धाओं में कहावत है: मैं आयोजक बनने का साहस नहीं करता, अतिथि बनना पसंद करता हूँ; एक अंगुल आगे बढ़ने का साहस नहीं करता, एक पग पीछे हटना पसंद करता हूँ। इसे कहते हैं — चलना बिना चाल, आस्तीन चढ़ाना बिना बाँह, सामना करना बिना शत्रु, धारण करना बिना शस्त्र। शत्रु को तुच्छ मानने से बड़ी कोई विपत्ति नहीं; शत्रु को तुच्छ मानने से मैं अपने रत्न लगभग खो ही देता हूँ। इसलिए जब दो सेनाएँ समबल लड़ें, तब जो शोकाकुल है वही जीतती है।
