Tao Te Ching 79.1

和大怨，必有餘怨，安可以為善？是以聖人執左契而不責於人。有德司契，無德司徹。天道無親，常與善人。

he da yuan, bi you yu yuan, an ke yi wei shan? shi yi sheng ren zhi zuo qi er bu ze yu ren. you de si qi, wu de si che. tian dao wu qin, chang yu shan ren.

After a great resentment is reconciled, some resentment surely remains. How can this be considered good? Therefore the sage keeps his half of the agreement and does not demand from others. One who has virtue attends to the agreement. One who lacks virtue attends to exacting payment. The way of heaven has no favorites. It always accompanies the good person.

बड़े द्वेष का समाधान हो जाए तो भी कुछ अवशेष-द्वेष रह जाता है — इसे भला कैसे कहें? इसलिए संत समझौते की अपनी बायीं प्रति धारण करता है पर दूसरों से माँग नहीं करता। गुणी समझौते पर ध्यान देता है; गुणहीन वसूली पर। आकाश का मार्ग पक्षपात नहीं करता; वह सदा साधु मनुष्य के साथ रहता है।
