Verse 1

In the beginning, the Self alone existed — nothing else whatsoever blinked. It thought: 'Let me now create the worlds.'

Verse 2

It created these worlds: the waters above heaven, the luminous regions of the sky, the mortal earth, and the waters below.

It thought: 'Here are the worlds; let me now create the guardians of the worlds.' From the waters themselves It drew forth a Person and gave him form.
