Dhammapada — Chapter 13: Lokavagga

12 verses

Verse 1

Do not follow low practices; do not live with heedlessness; do not embrace wrong views; do not be one who prolongs worldly existence.

Verse 2

Arise! Do not be heedless! Practise the Dhamma well. One who lives by the Dhamma rests in happiness, in this world and the next.

Verse 3

Practise the Dhamma well; do not practise it wrongly. One who lives by the Dhamma rests in happiness, in this world and the next.

Verse 4

Look upon the world as a bubble; look upon it as a mirage. He who views the world thus, the King of Death does not see.

Verse 5

Come, look at this world, so like a decorated royal chariot, where fools flounder — but for the discerning there is no attachment.
