Verse 1

If by renouncing a lesser happiness one may realize a greater happiness, let the wise one renounce the lesser, having regard for the greater.

Verse 2

One who seeks happiness by inflicting suffering on others, entangled in the bonds of hatred, is never freed from hatred.

What ought to be done is neglected, what ought not to be done is done. In the arrogant and heedless, the taints increase.
