Better than a thousand meaningless verses is one verse of meaning, hearing which one finds peace.

Verse 3

Though one may recite a hundred verses of meaningless words, better is one word of Dhamma, hearing which one finds peace.

Verse 4

Though one may conquer a thousand times a thousand men in battle, he who conquers himself alone is the greatest of all conquerors.
