Rig Veda — Chapter 14: Ratri Sukta (10.127)

Verse 1
The goddess Night has drawn near, looking about on many sides with her eyes of stars. She has put on all her glories.
Verse 2
The immortal goddess has filled the wide spaces, the depths and the heights. With her light she drives away the darkness.
Verse 3
The goddess approaching has made way for her sister Dawn. And the darkness also departs, smiling.
Verse 4
So favour us this night, under whose shelter we have come to rest, as birds come to their nest upon a tree.
Verse 5
The villagers have gone to rest, and all that walks and all that flies, even the hungry hawks have settled down.
